for gaming, I want to future proof for at least 2-3 years a desktop, and I'm in the final momments, what should I get, the radeon 6950 2gb with i7 2600k or the radeon 6970 with the i5 2500k? I think eventually hyper threading will be used by games, but the video card would run more smoothly and is rated as one of the best for gaming... so I need some professional advice. Thanks!|||I7 an 6950 bt power is nw da prob even wit i5 unless u gt enough|||if you are sure that you want ati, then you should get the 6950, because if you look it up, they have ways to unlock it to be a 6970. but the two processors are about the same anyway, they both overclock extremely well and your not going to get much more power out of the i7, at least not 100 dollars worth. i would get the i5 and the 6950 (if i liked ati) but they also have nvidia cards too that are way better IMO. If you can overclock it, you can make the i5 just as good or even better than the i7 and the unlocking of the 6950 makes it the obvious money saver.|||Get the i5. It's plenty fast and most games won't use more than two cores now anyway. Games don't always lend themselves well to massive multithreading as there's only so much you can spin off to another core with any real benefit, so I wouldn't worry too much. It also overclocks like crazy if ever it becomes a bottleneck.|||no such thing as future proof with computer hardware
no telling what will happen in 2-3 years
