I need some help with my new ATI Sapphire HD Radeon 6790 video card?

Okay, so a few days ago, i felt that it was time to upgrade from my old HD Radeon 3450 card,

so i bought the HD Radeon 6790 and a sufficient power supply ( Corsair 600w ), and my friend installed it into my computer for me with ease.

Using a DVI cable, i connected my monitor with my new video card.

Currently, i can see things on my screen, but the video card is not really in effect right now.

In the Windows performance rating, it received a 1.0 rating for both categories relating to categories.

I have reason to believe that my card is not being recognized by my computer.

as a display adapter, it is being named, "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter"

I attempted to download and install the driver for the card multiple times from the official AMD website, with no success.

I also downloaded the latest drivers for my BIOS and my chipset, but it made no difference.

Here are my specs for my computer:

Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Intel core 2 quad Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz 2.34Ghz

6gigs of RAM

Currently, my CD-ROM is not usable because i had to remove the longer cable connecting it to the hard drive so that my video card could reach my hard drive, otherwise i would use my installation disk that my card came with

next week i should be able to get another cable and get the CD ROM working again, but until then, anyone have any ideas as to what may solve my dilemma? :/

thanks :)|||lol. doesnt matter if u update mobo drivers.. thast only for ethernet, cpu, and stuff liek that.

what u want is a graphics driver. so in your case you want catalyst control center. this shouldve came with ur graphics card if u bought it in a box, if not go to their webiste, and it shoudl work|||My computer did this at first as well, it recognized the onboard video instead of the video card so it gave it a 1.0 rating.

However to fix this, go to BIOS screen, it will tell you how when you enter the Boot menu, and than just find Anything about Video or graphics because its different on every motherboard, so just change it to "Pci-e" instead of "PCI" or onboard graphics. This might solve your dillema.

Otherwise wait for the CD-rom|||Did you uninstall the previous drivers via Add-Remove Programs? (or whatever it's called in Win7, that's what it's called in XP)

About the HDD cable thing - you could just unmount your hard drive and put it on the ground next to your PC temporarily.
