Good video card for WoW?

I'm going to be building a computer soon, and I've already found a pretty good deal from tigerdirect that comes with a nice dual core AMD processor, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM, a solid mobo, and a 450W PSU and case. I decided I didn't want the onboard graphics, so I started looking around for cards. I eventually decided I wanted an ATI 4850 or 4870, depending on how much I was willing to spend. Did some research, and turns out this card has problems running WoW with good frame rate in places like Dalaran.

So I'm asking if anybody knows some good video cards that are at or under $200 that can run WoW with good fps during 25 mans or while in Dalaran? PCI-e.|||if you dont want ATI then get a GTX 260 or a GTX 280. make sure that you get a PSU rated to run either...

Looking for a new Video card for the pc?

I want to get a better video card for this computer. Its an hp pavilion p6310f, and has a 256 MB video card. I play World Of Warcraft alot and have been having horrible frame rate issues, so Im betting that I don't have enough MB's to support everything on the computer plus WOW efficiently. My question is what kind of card would any of you recommend and will my power supply be able to handle it? I prefer to stay with Nvidia GeForce...|||Ok, I'll start off by saying that your bet is a losing bet. First of all, you don't have a video card you have the nVidia GeForce 9100 on-board video chipset with 256MB of RAM allocated from your UDMA (main system memory bank). Secondly, World of Warcraft requires a minimum of 32MB of video ram with a recommended amount of 128MB. You're already at double that so the RAM is not an issue. The issue is that on-board video is not really designed for gaming. It can game but as you know, frame rates will suck. I'll give you some choices here because you haven't specified a budget. Also, keep in mind that it makes no difference whatsoever whether you get nVidia or ATi so just get the one that gives you the best performance and features for the money. The rest is pure semantics and worthless.

I'll start by using the Passmark score and ranking of what you have:

nVidia GeForce 9100

Passmark Score: 101

Passmark Rank: 583rd in the world

This is what I recommend you get:

ATi Radeon HD 4550 512MB: $45 (-$15 mail-in-rebate=$30)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Passmark Score: 357

Passmark Rank: 216th in the world

This has 3.5x the power of your 9100 and would deliver perfectly good framerates in WoW. On the other hand, if you're bound and determined to spend extra money just to get a vidcard that's green..

nVidia GeForce GT 220: $60 (-$20 mail-in-rebate)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Passmark Score: 460

Passmark Rank: 168th in the world

It's a price increase of 33% for a performance increase of 28%. That's actually a good price/performance ratio, almost matching that of the Radeon HD 4550. Either card will work perfectly so it's up to you. Just pop em in and away you go! Hope this helps you out! :-)

I have a 400w psu and my video card is killing it i have another 430w psu i plan on using but only has 20 pin?

I believe my video card is overheating because of my crappy 400w psu now i just happen to have another psu laying around its a 430w im wondering if i install it will it be better then the one i already am using? A computer guy at a place had said when i asked him if i would be better off using a 430w or a 400 the 400w has 24 pin connector and the 430 only has a 20 pin now the guy states i cant run the 430 because the 400w 24pin gives more power to the board. Now what he doesnt know is my comp came with a 365w psu originally was only a 20 pin and had a celeron d running the 4 pin connector that was next to the cpu wasnt even plugged in. When i added a p4 ht 631 i had plugged in the 4 pin next to the processor because i had seen it plugged in on a 478 genuine p4 so i figured reg p4's needed this extra power plugg. Anyways i added the 400w to replace stock after i picked up a new video card now i had 24 pins connected and a 4 pin on the board next to the chip plugged in. The only thing is the cpu power rating for my newer p4 chip is slighty lower then the celeron d uses less volts too. I dont see why the 430w psu wont work fine. I mean i havent done anything but add a video card . the first one i added was when i had a stock 365w psu that was only a 20pin and the 4 pin next to the chip wasnt plugged in and everything ran smooth. The plugs on the 430w seem to have more nuts put out a couple extra amps. I have recently noticed the connector going from my gfx card to the psu connector looked brown sorta burnt the yellow wire did and that cant be good|||Most motherboards support both 20 and 24 pin power supplies.

I would increase to in the 500 watt range and with 24 pins, there some power supply have 4 pin socket which sides on the end of 20 pin socket. You still have 4 pin 12 volt which plugs in socket near the CPU. Make sure the power supply have correct socket for your video card.

The yellow wire is 12 volts and some reason your video is drawing heavy amounts of amps. Check your video card for blown caps or resistors.|||Your video card would not overheat due to a weak PSU.

But if the PSU is supplying the wrong voltage, or voltage spikes you can see issues like the browning connectors and such.

You should go and purchase a quality PSU that is rated more around 500Watts. The jump from 400 to 430 will not help much unless the 430 Watt PSU is of higher quality.|||If the card is overheating it's due to inadequate cooling. The 430W couldn't hurt but you do need a pin ATX connector for a S775 motherboard.

You didn't mention what card you're using

Video Card For Machinima Director?

Okay, I know Laptops probably aren't the best for Machinima Making, but all I'm using is Frapps and Halo One, So I don't think it's that big a load... But my computer still only runs at like, 9 f/ps while running frapps! What video cards could I get to improve the Frames per second rate? IF the video card isn't the issue then here are my Computers Specs, tell me what I should get?

System: Toshiba

Model: Satellite L555D

Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-74 2.20 GHz

Memory (RAM): 4.00 GB

Rating: 3.6 (Windows Experience Index)

And then I open up a different Window and it tells me THESE specs...

Processor: Calculations per second: 4.9

Memory (RAM): Memory operations per second: 5.9

Graphics: Desktop performance for Windows Aero: 4.1

Gaming Graphics: 3D business and gaming graphics preformance: 3.6

Thanks for the help!|||you should get a video card im assuming you have Pci-e cheapest one i could find http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=3a&products_id=44442 hope it helps btw, this is in AUD dollars so it will be cheaper.

Which Video Card card should I get?

See, I was looking around on the internet when I found what I thought to be a very nice video card on eBay. It is a VisionTek Xtasy Radeon X1300 for PCI: http://cgi.ebay.com/VisionTek-ATI-RADEON…

I thought it was a very nice video card, seeing that it had 256mb of DDR2 memory, and the reviews on CircuitCity.com were good, too. However, when I went onto CNET reviews, it said that it wasn't good for gaming. Now, on the other hand, It's supposed to be able to run games like Doom 3 and Battlefield 2 at high resolutions and detail with a good FPS rating. CNET says it is mediocre, even with a low end card. Or should I just go for an Radeon 9250 with 256mb of memory, or something from nVidia? Really, I want something that will run Vista with a rating higher than 3 and run Battlefield 2 really well.

Radeon X1300 256mb DDR2

Radeon 9250 256mb

nVidia same/better (with good price or on ebay)|||Well that is the best card you can get for PCI, so that is really your only option. The 9250 is a big step down from the x1300. This card is not a high end card, but there is no PCI card made that will run Battlefield 2 on the highest settings, so this is your best bet until you get a new computer.|||i have a 7800gt pci express Nvidia card and it is awesome for gaming, it runs fear, oblivion etc... with no problems, and its not that expensive newegg.com|||If youre a serious gamer you might want to consider a card with at least 256 megs and pixel shader architecture. Some of the newer games require this feature. If money isnt an object, go for 512 megs of ram. This should keep you game happy for a couple years at least.

Can I updated the video card in my laptop?

It's an Acer Aspire 5516-5063. It has an ATI Radeon Xpress 1200 Graphics card. Which is kinda weak. Also does anyone know what kind of frame rates I should expect in Dal or Wintersgrasp?|||No

VIDEO CARD UPGRADE HELP?

i have a mobile intel 945GM express chipset video card in my dell E1705. i have heard from prople that the chip is intgrated into the motheboad and cannot be replaced, dell says this: "The Mobile Intel® 945GM Express chipset enables up to 25% higher data transfer rate compared to the previous generation bus speed. Additionally, it features PCI Express* x16 graphics ports and PCI Express x1 I/O ports, next generation Serial ATA, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity." does this mean that i can upgrade it?|||You should be able to upgrade the graphics to the PCIEx16 slot card type. But instead of wasting your time on here, just call Dell. I say this because Dell is notorious for making products that have to be upgraded through their parts only. A laptop graphics card is going to be expensive, I'm sure, so I would just get with Dell in the first place to make sure you get the perfect one for your laptop... This answer isn't to sound snooty, only to help you save some money down the road... The link below is on the Dell website for analyzing your laptop and seeing any upgrades that is available for it...|||Go to Device manager and check for is there any updates for your video card,,or Go to windows update ( go to control panel , you can see windows update option on left-side ) go for custom installation of windowsu-pdate and check for any updates for hardwares.. and install them ,, sometimes this method will works better

AndhraYouth|||PCI express x16 is used for video cards.... I don't know how it could fit in your laptop though!

JK, you should be able to plug a mobile video card right in there.

Questions about a "Used" video card on Ebay.?

Could anyone give me their opinion on if I should buy BIOSTAR/ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB DDR5 PCI-E Video Card

Its just within my price range and much better than my current video Card. My other question is, will it fit into the same slot as my Nvidia GeForce 8800GTS, and is it as slender as it, my current card slips right in and snaps in. I upgraded from an old 320mb 8800GTS to a Radeon HD 5770 myself- it's a huge improvement, about 4X faster.

Really high-end cards are often physically longer, but most low-end cards only occupy 1 slot (in terms of width) while serious gaming cards usually cover the adjacent slot as well.

Upgrade video card?

i want to upgrade from a nvidia geforce fx 5500 128mb video card to a evga geforce 6200 256mb video card. Games that will be played include WOW and lord of the rings, will this boost performance on lord of the rings and improve frame rate on WOW in this upgrade? also, i would like to run these games on high video settings, will this card allow me to do that? if other video cards are recommended, they MUST be no more that $100 and MUST be PCI, not PCI express or agp.|||The PCI bus was never designed to transfer vast amounts of video data (that's why they made AGP slots), so there are severe limitations with high frame rates, high irresolutions and high detail displays on PCI video cards.

I think it's time to chance the motherboard to something that can do AGP or even PCI-E.

There are better way to spend these $100, a PCI video card is not it. Try finding a motherboard that will have an AGP slot and allows you to keep your memory and processor. Then get an GP card.|||You are better off applying that $100 towards the purchase of a new PC. If you are limiting yourself to the PCI bus, your video card is always going to be an issue.

You will get something of a boost to your gaming... but its not going to make you go "WOW!" (no pun intended).|||To be honest, with that setup I don't think you can run much of anything at high graphic settings.

Any upgrade will help, but not that much. You are really limited with just a PCI interface...that's really slow.

Sorry.|||just get an 8600gt , they have them on newegg.com for about 100 dollars and they will play just about anything on max.|||If you seriously want an "upgrade". Then go for no less than GeForce 7600 or 6800.

and upgrade the power-supply if required, otherwise, it wouldn't be worth upgrading to 5500 to 6200, in today's world. Seriously.|||Even if you got a new card, the PCI standard is very slow.|||you have no breathing room =/, its really to bad if you don't have a agp slot was gonna recommend a 6800 from evga but yea see you have a 250w very low...considering the vid cards that you want are determined usually on your psu but well in your case its the slot as well, even tho your fx5500 prolly says it needs no more then a 250w your cutting it kind of close.... I cant stress enough DONT BOTTLE NECK UR DEVISES from power. you should have a 300 at least. you might be pushing it with that 6200 and the 250watt psu....|||http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?s… THIS CARD IS THE BADDEST MOFO OF ALL PCI's, IT WILL TAKE A LEVEL 4 NIGHTELF AND TURN HIM INTO A LEVEL 425 DEMONSLAYER! Will this video card work with my power supply?

I have a Dell XPS 400 desktop with the original 375-watt power supply. I've been unable to find any specific information on this PSU. I'm looking to upgrade my video card to the EVGA 512-P3-1212-LR http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-nVidia-GeForc… The video card specifies a minimum requirement of "+12 Volt current rating of 18 Amps".

Thanks in advance for the help!|||A 210 will work on a 275watt psu. If you want to play games forget the 210. Use a Geforce gt240 or radeon 4670 as a minimum. both of those will work on a 375w psu

9600gt video card power supply compatability?

I was wondering if the nvidia 9600gt video card is compatible with the Coolmax CXI-600B power supply?

The 9600 gt requires a minimum of 400w power supply with 12v current rating of 26A. And i don't know how to tell if the coolmax power supply will work. Here is the specs of the power supply:Input Voltage 115/ 230 V

Input Frequency Range 50/60 Hz

Input Current 12A @ 115V, 6A @ 230V

Output 3.3V@30A, 5V@55A, 12V1@19A, 12V2@19A, -12V@1A, 5VSB@2.5A

I don't understannd this at all, some please help me!!!|||It will work.|||it should work, as long its over 400w since your power supply shows that it has the recommended specifications for a single card system|||You'll have no problem. Your current PSU is overkill for what you need.

Will a ThermalTake PurePower 500-Watt PSU support EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Video Card - Dual Slot, 512M?

I am wondering if The ThermalTake power supply will have the right amps to support the geforce 8800gt dual slot video card. The recommended combined 12v amp rating is supposed to be 28amps.|||The guy above me doesn't know what he's talking about: 800watts? Are you kidding me. The 8800GT requires 110 watts at max load. A 500 watt PSU with multiple 12v rails is sufficient.

I'm running two 8800GTS's in SLI with a 600 watt PSU and these cards require 150 a piece at max load.|||sounds fine, I'm running an 8800gs on a 500 watt with no problems, your PSU will perform fine.|||If you want to be on the safe side-go to this link and fill out the form-but don't forget anything. He will tell you how many Watts you need.

But a 800Watt PSU will do.A 8800 uses about 143 Watts.

Upgrading my video card, question on power supply?

I'm upgrading my video card to EVGA GeForce GT 430, Requirements Minimum of a 300 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amps.). The power supply I have now is a CoolMaster 460W, +12V1, 18Amps....+12V2, 18Amps. Will this be enough amps for the video card? What problems would it cause?|||Yes , it will power your new GPU fine, you might not see the cards full potential but you will notice better graphics|||Yup, that will be more than enough to support the video card. You will have no probems. Enjoy!

Please can someone give me a link for my video card drivers?

I have an ati radeon xpress 200 series video card (i know its old). Please help its giving me problems. will rate best answer. Where can I buy a cheap AGP Gaming Video Card?

Where can I buy a AGP Video Card that will run World of Warcraft perfectly and under 100$? It must run the game at high frame rates with no lag.|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

I'm sure you can spare $20|||Wow! Why go for an AGP? They are extremely outdated.... Nearly extinct species... If you must, there are quite a few, but you won't be running WoW in high and high fps would probably not be possible. I suggest you buying a new motherboard with a PCI Express slot.

Search www.newegg.com(or similar sites) for an AGP card, they are probably VERY cheap($30?), but will not give you the performance you desire in WoW.|||I agree that AGP series Video cards are pretty much gone in today's technological standards and would highly recommend that it is due time to upgrade or even get an entirely new computer system.

Regardless, if you still wanna try to get those cards, probably auction sites are your best bet.|||Here are some of them

What Rating Does Windows 7 give the BFG Geforce GTX 275 896mb DDR3 video card?

I just got a BFG Geforce GTX 275 896mb DDR3 448bit video card and i was wondering what rating Windows 7 Give to the gtx 275 just to see how it compared to my old card. i already know about benchmark tests ive looked at them and i know everyone says its alot better but i was just wondering that's all.|||It's a bit dependent on some other factors, so you can't really get a straight number rating for that card on the video test for the Windows 7 rating.

I need a new Video Card for my Desktop. One that will work in it!?

I have a HP Pavilion a819n Desktop PC. I need a new video card because this one is simply outdated as well as this computer. But I cant afford a new computer and i already have put a GB of RAM in this thing so it runs smoothly, it just has horrible frame rate. I am most likely going to play Diablo 3 on this computer as well. So Can anyone recommend a Video Card THAT THIS COMPUTER CAN USE!!! That will run World of Warcraft a lot better. I just want better than 5FPS at the lowest setting possible lol. Thanks guys.|||Dude, you pc is ancient. You will not be able to run Diablo 3, haha. Dude you probably have a hard time running diablo 2 and that came out in the late 90's or something. You only have pci slots and that narrows it down to a handful of ancient cards they probably aren't selling anymore unlees you go to ebay(even then??). I think EVGA has a Geforce 9400 on newegg for 70 dollars. It's your best option for gaming.

Actually you know what you should do? You should get two of the powercolor 4350's and crossfire them and see how that works. That'd be pretty cool to see how those would work in an ancient computer. It'd probably work terribly actually, your mobo wouldn't support crossfire, so nevermind. go with 9400 EVGA

What video card should i buy with a budget of 100 to 125?

what video card should i buy from wich sight budget 100 to 125 im going for at least a 5.0 on the vista rating mainly used for gaming wich sight should i buy from (was thinking frys.com as am close to a store or tigerdirect)|||Assuming you have a PCIe slot available and a good enough power supply, I would get an NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT for that price or maybe if you can find a good deal, get a 9600GT.|||Please supply us with what port you have available.

eg. pciE 1 or 2, AGP, PCI.. etc..|||I assume you have a PCI-E slot... So here are some recommendations.

2. EVGA GeForce 8800 GS Superclocked Video Card - 384MB GDDR3

3. KFA2 GeForce 9600 GT Video Card - OC, 512MB

I recommend the third one, best results around $125ish.

Remember you need a powersupply of atleast 450W to run these powerful cards.|||a new one

I need a major video card upgrade, something w/ great data rate clock speeds and more advanced texture quality and color capability. I'm looking at the ATI Radeon 4875, and I really need to compare because it's a heck of an investment.

So what are the easiest sites to compare overall performance of video cards?|||I don't know if you can compare them here, but my brother got a heck of a deal on his video cards. He went to tigerdirect.com. They have some amazing sales.|||www.Tomshardware.com

No such card as the 4875. There is the 4870 which is $300 ish, and it's a very good card. There's the GTX 280 which is $425ish and only slightly better. Than there's the 4870x2 for $550 which kicks some real butt.

Video Card and Power Supply Help?

Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my video card and am thinking about getting a GeForce 7600GT 512MB card for my computer.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

I'm almost postive that I need to upgrade my PSU due to it being 250 watts.

My specs are:

Dell Dimension 8300

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.6 GHz

2.5 GB of RAM

Current Card: GeForce4 MX440 and is AGP 8x

Here is the new PSU I'm looking at

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Its the highest rated one on Newegg. Will it fit right into my computer case?

I'm a casual gamer and I'm updating my system to play some newer games, like the Orange Box.

If anyone has any suggestions or want to tell me that I am doing this right by some grace of God, please tell me. My price range is shown in the items, but willing to spend more for a worthwhile improvement.|||yeah, you must upgrade the power supply.

make sure your dell uses standard ATX power supplies, since some dells don't, which will cause problems.

You need have a ATX or micro-ATX case for the power supply to fit.

The new power supply is a good choice.|||if your case is ATX and the ps is ATX, then yes.|||if i were u i would get a 600 watt power supply. thats the one i have. its better to have a little more of those watts because ur computer might need it. or u can stay with that psu u picked. if u have a mid-tower or full-tower case that psu will fit fine. if u have a micro-tower it wont fit inside.|||to be honest i wouldnt bother upgrading wit ur computer, its a little outdated. if u want u could get the 7950 AGP or the X1950 AGP from radeon.

jus buy a whole new pc if i were u

Why is this video card so cheap?

I was looking on http://www.compusa.com for video cards and I'm seeing this one is 191 US(220 CAD) including shipping and I'm wondering why is this so cheap compared to other places. Is there something wrong with this particular card like stuff not included or installed?

What video card would be best for playing WoW WotLK?

I'm not really satisfied with the performance of my video card, so I am shopping for a new one and can't make up my mind. Newegg has lots of good, highly-rated choices for PCI-E 2.0 but I can't decide. Size and Power usage are not really a factor, but I don't want to spend more than $200USD. Here are the specs of my rig if needed, thanks in advance:

CPU - AMD Phenom II X3 710 2.6GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core

RAM - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800

PSU - Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W ATX12V v2.01 SLI Ready

MOBO - GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P

Problems with a new video card - GeForce 8600GTS?

Here's the deal. I have a homebuilt system that is teaching me as I go along. It's been about 2 years since I overhauled it, and I'm attempting to get a new video card to work in it.

System setup:

P4 2.8ghz processor (non dual or quad core)

2gigs RAM

550wt PowerLabs Power Supply

DVD Drive, 140Gig Texas Instruments HD, ect.

Old graphics card: ATI Raedon X800GT 256mb onboard ram.

New graphics card: nVidia GeForce 8600GTS, 512 mb DDR3 ram (both cards sit in the PCI slot).

Problem:

Ever since installing the new card, I'm having atrocious frame rates. I've installed multiple sets of drivers, I've reinstalled windows, I've called tech supports, ect. I am able to return the GeForce as defective.. but after I boxed it up I plugged inm y Raedon and the framerate problems are still persisting (albeit not as badly) so I'm not sure it's the card.. think ing it may be a power supply issue.

Does anyone have any recommendation on what I could do to turn this mess around? Thanks!|||Both graphics cards draw less than 4 amps from the power supply. Your power supply has more than enough juice for those cards.

I suspect driver issues. Check in dxdiag. Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag, ok. Select Display tab. Card and driver details should be there and should be able to test it. If no card and driver details, you need to install the driver.

1. Uninstall old drivers through "Add or remove programs" in Control Panel"

2. Disable all startups in msconfig. (Run msconfig)

3. Install the driver of your 8600GT.

4. Check it out again in dxdiag.

5. Enable your startups in msconfig

Why does my computer appearently not have a video card anymore?

Today i noticed about 85% or so of my computers memory has been used, and seeing as how I only use about 3 of the programs I decided to System Restore my computer back to the way it was when i first bought it.

Here are my system details if they are important, i'm not a big computer whiz so i'll just post everything that seems like it would be important.

Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.20 GHz

Memory (RAM): 6,00 GB

System Type: 64-Bit operating system

My friend came over and he plays warhammer, so, the first program i decided to install on my "new" computer was warhammer, now mind u that before I restored my computer warhammer worked fine. So i recieve and error; "System video card fails minimum specs -- Warhammer will now terminate.

This concerned me, so i did a little searching in my computer, and here's what i find, i looked up the rating of my computers performance and here they are;

Processor: 5.8

Memory (RAM): 5.9

Graphics: 1.0

Gaming Graphics: 1.0

Primary hard disk: 5.9

So from what i can tell... my video card isn't working anymore? did it have to do with my system restore? has my video card melted? Idk but any help would be appreciated|||When you did the system restore you probably went back to a date before the latest video drivers were installed, so now you don't have any. Go to the card makers website and get the most current drivers.|||You better take some of the memory out or the computer will just use it again.

Computer video card help?

Im thinking on getting this Video card for my computerhttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… but im not sure if i have the power supply requirements, can someone tell me if the card works on my computer, the video card says it requires A minimum 300W or greater system power supply (with 12V current rating of 18A)

This is what the label on my power supply says

AC Input (47-63Hz) : 100-127V/8A

200-240V/4A

DC Output +5V --- /25A , +12V--- /19A

+3.3V--- /18A , -12V--- /0.8A

+5VSB--- /2A

+5V & +3.3V SHALL NOT EXCEED 176W

+5V & +12V SHALL NOT EXCEED 268W

Max output Power: 300W|||I wouldn't use that card without upgrading the power supply.

The MINIMUM requirements are 300 watts - that just enough for it to run, not perform well.

Your power supply's MAXIMUM output is 300 watts (and no power supply is 100% efficient) and does not exceed 268 watts (90% efficiency).

You will need a 400 - 450 watt power supply.|||Don't try to do an experiment with your present SMPS,sometimes it may harm your graphics card,so better buy a 500w SMPS or geit from any friend and check it,or take your system to any service centre and they can have high watt smps andplug it and connect all secondary storage and check the display and play games,if it's ok then buy that type,

How do I know if my PSU has enough amps for a 8800GTS video card upgrade?

I have an Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply with the following output:

+3.3V@24A, +5V@20A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, +12V3@18A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A

I want to upgrade to a GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 graphics card. The card has the following power requirements:

Minimum of a 400 Watt power supply.

(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amps.)

I have always had problems understanding power supply specifics. Can somebody explain if my power supply has enough power to handle this card? And how?

Thanks

Zach|||Yes your power supply should handle this card. Most people do not understand that a atx power supply has to produce 3 types of voltage. 3.3/5/12v. The specs are asking for a power supply that can handle a total of 26 amps on its 12 volt side. If you add up you have 4 12v rails that are capable of providing a total of 54.8 amps. This will not be a problem.

Hope this helps.|||I'm almost as lost as you are when it comes to all this goobelygook,Zach.Using my low tech logic, the card calls for 26 amps. The highest rated 12V leg I see is rated at 18 Amps.Using that, I would say no.I am afraid it would run glichy and maybe start freezing up at intensive points in the game. Then too,it would probably depend on what games you play. That is,of course, just my rather uninformed $0.02 worth.Anybody else?Help out a couple of noobs?

Who would best benefit from a discrete video card vs. an integrated video card?

A. A gamer because a discrete video card provides faster frame rates and prevents graphics lag.

B. Someone who watches movies on the computer because a discrete video card lessens stuttering or choppy video.

C. Someone who does digital photo and video editing because a discrete video card allows faster rendering of video or photos when editing.

D. All of the above|||D.. a better video card effects every graphic on your computer / resolution etc

Will upgrading my video card get rid of screen flicker?

My screen displays fine except when I play games. When I play games I get a flicker. Online advice told me to change my refresh rate, but I only have 60 hz as an available option. Will upgrading my video card solve my problem?|||yes|||Have you tried changing the video drivers?|||problemly a hardware problem. best to change it..

If you upgraded the power supply to 270 watts (replacements psus do exist, they're just expensive), you could run faster low-profile cards, such as the Radeon 4650 and 5550:

Suitable video card for my computer & The Sims 3?

Ok, I need a new video card that will run on my computer as well as The Sims 3.

My computer-

System:

Microsoft Windows XP

Home Edition

Version 2002

Service Pack 3

Computer:

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.50GHz 2.49GHz, 512MB of RAM

I went on http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php and downloaded CPUZ, and under the mainboard tab, it says-

Mainboard

Chipset: SiS 645 Rev.02

Southbridge: SiS LPC Bridge

LPCIO: Winbond W83697HF

Graphic Interface

Version: AGP version 2.0

Transfer rate: 4x

Max. supported: 4x

Side band: not supported

The minimum hardware requirements fo me to play The Sims 3 are:

Windows XP (Service Pack 2)

2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent

1 GB RAM

At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content

128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0

I currently only have an NVIDIA GeForce MX 420 (64MB) with no Pixel Shader 2.0 and I only have 512MB of RAM so another 512MB is needed and a new video card for me to meet the requirements.

So, hopefully all that above information can help you determine a new video card for my computer that has the best possible graphics for the cheapest price (I'm hoping around £60) and meets the requirements for The Sims 3.

Sorry that this is such a lenghty post and hopefully I havn't bombarded you with information!

Any help what so ever is GREATLY appreciated as I really want to be able to play The Sims 3 and can't afford to buy a new computer.

Thank you!|||Most cards sold in stores today by nVidia should be compatible with Sims 3.

As you mentioned, you definately want to upgrade your RAM, and you should not buy a 512 MB brick. Go for a new 2GB brick, which can be bought for a very reasonable price in almost every online computerstore.

Power supply and Video card compatibility? How to find the Amps?

I want know know if my power supply can power up my GTX 470, it was a gift from a friend and I really don't know much about what it requires. It says it needs minimum of a 550 Watt power supply. (Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 38 Amps.) I don't know what that means to tell you the truth or how to even find it in the power supply, but my old set up had this power supply.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182070

It says it has this. +3.3V@24A, +5V@30A, +12V1@20A, +12V2@20A, +12V3@20A, +12V4@20A, -12V@0.5A, +5VSB@3A. It's a 850W.

I don't know how to find the amps or anything like that. I want know how to find it, know if it's enough, if I should even risk it, or wait and buy a new power supply that can power up my system.

This is the Video card by the way.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130550

So, please. Someone explain to me how to find it so I can get a better power supply if it is needed or just go ahead and install in my desktop.|||You'll notice, on the specifications label, right on the side of your power supply, there's a section that lists the combined power rating for the +12V rails. It say, "768W(64A)",

http://images17.newegg.com/is/image/newe…

That Rosewill power supply is made by ATNG (UL file number E186010), so it's not a very good one --don't buy Rosewill again --but so long as that particular example continues working correctly, it should have plenty of power to support a single GTX 470. You dont urgently need to replace it, unless it starts acting up.|||You need this;

you really need to post your hardware to ask a hardware question|||the only;y limitations to you graphics card upgrade is you power supply. if it has 6pin connectors and has at list 500W pf power you good to go . but sens its a emashin it doesn't have atlise one of two.

So i think the highest you can go is GeForce GT 545 1.5GB DDR3

Video card says needs combined 12V current rating of 28A or more, I only have 24A... will it work?

The video card I want says "combined 12V current rating of 28A or more*" My 550W Power supply only has 12V current rating of 24A. I'm guessing it wont work.

This is the card I want:

BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC+ 512MB GDDR3

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-BFG-GeForce-9800…|||It will work fine. 8800GT (9800GT) uses about 100W under full load, which is equivalent to 12v current of 8.33A. Most "requirements" are exaggerated anyways.|||28V is an overkill for a medium performance card like the 9800GT.

Make sure you don't have any unnecessary peripherals connected though.

Rating of my video card going down?

At the first time I got my video card, windows rated it 7.8 out of 7.9, after a few months it became 7.2, then now 6.4? Is the performance of my video card decreasing? My Video card is Sapphire 6870HD 1GB GDDR5.|||don't mind that bunch of crap. the performance of your graphics card is most the same as you installed it in your pc|||WEI changes depending on your drivers too.

There is certainly nothing wrong with a 6870, it's a great card.

WEI is just really useless.|||its not the performance of the video card that is decreasing but its performance of it compared to the newer ones which are faster thats all nothing is wrong with ur card|||The performance is probably not changing. WEI measurements are basically useless.

Video card help PLEASE~!?

I have a nvidia geforce4 mx 440 video card that I just started using as an extra video out for my desktop. My main monitor runs off of the onboard video out. This new card that I installed as a s-video out that I can't seem to get to work properly. It is set up correctly as my additional monitor, and i have the latest drivers available for it. The screen is black with white specs and lines going across (not like a fuzzy tv when there is no cable). I have tried adjusting screen resolution and refress rate and all that seems to change is the pattern of the white dots and lines. I have also switched out s-video cables. I dont need something special that i'm missing as far as a cord goes do i? i have the standard gold plated four pin s-video cable. What could be wrong?|||Have you set the settings in your computer? Updated Video card & RAM doesn't seem to help?

When I first starting playing World of Warcraft, my computer ran the game OK. My frame rate was running about 12 fps which was tolerably. With the Burning Crusade and now the Wrath of the Lich King my frame sunk down to 3 to 6 fps. I updated my video card and increase my RAM to 1.5 GB. But I haven't seen a change in my frame rate. Even when I turn down the graphics to the lowest setting.

Have a missed a step or forget to update something else?|||it may be your CPU so check the requirements for that

also make sure ALL your drivers and BIOS is up to date from your manufacturers website or the manufacturer of the component

email if you need help doing this i will help you|||well u didn't say what processor u have

or the video card

and that frame rate tells me u are way short in everything vid

processor and ram --how old is ur rig and who made it|||Update the dirext driver from microsoft and also update the firmware for you players and when this has been done check in the settings of those players that has to have able the DMA=direct memory access also in those settings you can configure the speed of reading of the media high or lower.|||Stay away from updating BIOs if possible, here is a few things you can do to help.

delete all temp files, cookies and history from your browser, delete all temp files from windows folder/temp folder, delete all programs that you no longer use start/settings/control panel/ add and delete programs, download cc cleaner (free software) and clean your registry, do this periodical and finally defragment your hard drive double click my Computer/right side click c: drive/properties/tools/defragment now.

do all this in this order and you will see a big improvement in your game.

aquielisunari: you sound like a smart person but when it comes to gaming I think I'm 1 step ahead of you, gaming does a big number on computer registry and a clean up is always a must, the other stuff does help a bit too specially when you have a lot of programs that you never use just taking the resources away from the pc, the rest does help a bit as well|||you may not have looked at the fine print on the card. Lets say you upgraded from the 7900GS to the 8600 which of course plays all those dx10 games. If that change is made the only thing that is going to change is the fact that you can play dx10 games. The downside. you will go from a 256mb memory interface to the slower 128mb interface of the 8600. also take into consideration the 42.2 GBs bandwidth of the 7900 and the 32.GBs of the 8600. that's with the 7900 being clocked at 1320ghz and the 8600 clocked at 2.0ghz. you also have less pixel shaders with the 8600 i think 12 with 20-24 with the 7900. Do some research before you upgrade anything. learn to understand and take advantage of the small technical print. they can both boast about DDR3 memory but what lies beneath the surface. The bottleneck is either in your GPU or in your CPU. 1.5GIGs of memory is ok not great. I would have at least 2-3GIGs when plaing games.

unfortunately the answer above mine will have an affect on surfing ther internet but will only have a minor effect on your game with the defragmenting only having a neglible effect.

Can I buy a new video card?

I'm not sure what exactly I need to have in order to buy and install a new video card. I had a laptop a few years back and tried to get a new video card and they said It wasn't possible.. Heres my info

CPU

Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz

CPU Speed

2.60 GHz Performance Rated at: 3.9 GHz

RAM

6.0 GB

OS

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, 64-bit (Build Service Pack 16001)

Video Card

Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family (320 MB)

If I need any more info please let me know and what hardware you recommend me to buy.

Thank you!|||The only info we really need is what motherboard you have, what wattage power supply you have, what you need the card to do and the amount you want to spend. You shouldn't have added the comment about the laptop you had, some people are easily confused and might think your question is regarding a laptop.

Edit

Download cpu-z and click on the mainboard tab, it'll tell you the make and model of you motherboard.

http://www.cpuid.com/index.php

To find out what wattage your power supply is, remove the side panel and read the label on the power supply.|||Laptops generally aren't upgradable in any sense except RAM or HDD or any USB device and with older ones PCM/CIA slots. Desktops can be upgraded because they're made of different parts stuck together and have slots for everything. Laptops though are basically just one big board permanently soldered together with all the important parts it will ever come with.

Would this video card be good ?

im building a decent pc for a friend for xmas- hes wont be bothered too much about graphics.

do you think this video card would run games okay? like would it run call of duty 4 at okay settings with a good frame rate?

thanks

also answer this quiestion if you can :

what motherboard do i need to buy that would support this card?

thanks all|||You didn't say what card it is or MB.

I'll check this question again later.

Okay, the 3450. It should run COD 4 with a good frame rate at lower settings. This isn't really a gaming card though. If he wants to do more gaming but nothing too serious i would recommend the 3650. the 3450 is good for a media centre pc coz it has something called UVD on it that will take the stress of the processor if your watching blu-rays. Also it's fanless. it doesn't require a powerful psu as it draws it's power from the pcie slot. Oh and you can run dual monitors with it.

You can use this card with any motherboard that has a PCI Express slot. The card is backwards compatible so you could even use it with an old MB that has PCIe 1.0. I would recommend one of the asus' boards.

Oh and ebuyer are great. I get all my stuff from them!

My video card needs a 300w power supply?

I have a compaq EVO with a rated 230v power supply rated with 220watt output. All of the Nvidia cards I'm looking at require 250-300 watts on a power supply. Will the card run with an underrated power supply? What will happen if I try to use it?|||some cards can run efficiently with a low power supply, if you look at the system requirements on the video card box it will tell you the bare minimum power supply you can have. If you only have a 220 watt power supply and a video card says that it needs 300 watts DONT buy it. it wont work and it will defidently fry the video card, and will probably fry your motherboard, memory and processor.|||probably beep a lot,

get the new POWER SUPPLY, dont risk frying the new card|||It is not a good idea to run the card with hardware that does not meet the minimums. You can purchase and install a new power supply.

What is the highest bit rate on a video card?

there really isn't any limit, but you wont find much above 1.5GB VRam. even then that will be pretty expensive. 512MB VRam will do just fine in most situations such as running photoshop or 3D games.|||It's really not clear what you mean. There is no graphics card parameter that is commonly measured as a bit rate.

Monitor is showing weird ripple/shadowy effects after video card upgrade?

i just upgraded my onboard video to a 3D Fuzion 128 MB Geforce 6200LE and now there are these strange ripply and shadowing effects that are showing up almost all over the display.. near text, icons etc. its usable but it almost looks like i *downgraded* to a cheaper video card as opposed to upgrading to the better one. my CRT monitor is about 5 or 6 years old and i plan on replacing that soon but the onboard video that came with my new Compaq Presario was starting to irk me since it was causing some eyestrain. i am using a 75 hz refresh rate which i believe was the highest i could go. hmm maybe i should just downgrade back to the onboard video, buy my flatscreen LCD and see if the original problem goes away. i do like the specs of this video card though over the onboard.|||it's possible that you did downgrade ;) the GeForce 6200 is ancient.

but your problem can almost certainly be fixed by downloading the latest drivers. go to www.nvidia.com to download and install the latest one.|||u may need to disable onboard in the bios ...|||hmm. If by "almost all over the display" you mean that they are literally everywhere, then they could be artifacts, which is a sign of an overheating/faulty video card (a new video card that is not overclocked shouldnt be overheating). I had that when I first got my radeon 9800 pro - so i sent it back and got a new one and the artifacts disappeared. Put your finger on the heatsinks of the video card while your computer is running and see if they are very hot, which is a problem, and you should RMA it.

Will a 300w psu with a 280w 12v max run a video card that requires a 12v current rating of 22a?

The short answer is maybe/maybe not. It may work for a while, and then have crashes because the PSU can't keep up. But check your PSU's nameplate to see if it can provide 22 amps on the +12V rail(s). The graphics card is only part of the work the PSU has to do. See below for a calculator to come up with the wattage you need to power your entire system.|||Looks good so far

Effective Video card for college laptop to increase refresh rate and reduce eye strain?

I'm going to college in a month and this saturday I'm getting a Dell laptop. I have gradually been getting nearsightedness and my vision is getting blurry. Does anyone know (and money isn't a factor) what video card I can get that will optimize refresh rate (greater than or equal to 85 hz rate)? Obviously there are many but I just need one that people have found effective... Nvidia, Geforce, etc?

thanks|||First, get an eye check-up. Then, better get being used to frequent micro breaks (30 secs or more) to rest your eyes. It seems you are STRAINING your eyes too much.

You do not need high refresh rates in LCD displays as compared to CRT monitors.|||LCD screens found on laptops do not use 'refresh rates'. Get a laptop with the best video card available, because this is one of the most important things in a laptop that cannot be upgraded. Good luck

What To Do If Your Video Card Got Deleted?

My video card driver got uninstalled accidently. now i cant play games, i cant go 3 -d. My resolution sucks, my screeen refresh rate is really slow.

How can i get my NVDIA video card back?|||go to the website for the type of graphics card you have (eg: nvidia.com, ati.com) and click on drivers then chose your card modle # and then download it again|||Reboot...it is plug and play..the system will find the hardware...then you have to reinstall your video drivers and restart. Go to the manufacturer's website for your video driver and download the latest driver. Install it....thats it.

Video Card Loud Fan No Boot But Works Sometimes?

Alright computers working now but starting to get concerned.

Its ATI 4850 X2 Just passing requirements in my computer 650 watt 3 gb ram etc and sometimes it will freeze (Normal) and ill hold power button, turn off then turn on then i get a loud rpm in my fan and it stays at that rate and wont boot on monitor (monitors fine) and normally what my boot sounds like is Ex. (im using rpm as reference)

1000 RPM,700RPM then monitor comes on then 200RPM but when my computer crashes and i boot it stays at 1000RPM and to fix this i shake turn off then on turn off turn on wiggle it here wiggle it there and hope that $800.00 on video card and psu wasnt a wast of money. thx on answering as my question may be difficult|||possibly ur motherboard, bust open the case and look to see if any capacitors are blown. if only turns on sometimes then its intermittenly POSTing!! and that means new motherboard. pull out ur ram and turn it on if it doesnt make any beeps, its for sure the mobo

The Zotac one will definitely be able to kick but while u play WOW. The ECS will prob do pretty well but u might still get choppy game play at high settings.

these are both very good budget cards. If you are looking form something more powerful look into the GTX 400 series but you will be spending upwards of $200|||Providing you have a PCI Express slot, a Radeon 5670, or if you can afford better a 5750 or 5770.

No point in spending more if you don't intend playing more intense 3D games, if you think you will later go for the 5770.

Note added:

Gf 210 will be no better than what you have now and a Gf580 is silly money.|||this is a desktop, right? because laptops are non-upgradeable.

New Video Card and WOW?

I have this new video card, 6870 ATI 1GB(just released) but my frame rate is about 7 fps around other players in World of Warcraft. My latency is 72ms. Other computer specs..... 4 GB RAM, Pentium 4 3.4GHZ with Hyperthreading, 750 Watt PS

I've seen others with 60fps maxed out with much less graphics cards. What is going on?|||"Pentium 4 3.4GHZ" <-- the problem

You've got a fantastic video card, but not enough processor to run it and WoW well. WoW is somewhat cpu demanding, so it's not able to calculate where all the characters and fireballs are fast enough to keep up with the graphics. Upgrade the processor (if possible) and your gameplay will improve to that 60 fps level.|||Well it could be a number of things:

WoW is very depndant on your internet, so it could be internet connection.

Everything is there for you to run everything well. I think everything isgoing slow because of internet.|||The obvious question is, did you install the drivers for that new card? Also, what Internet connection speed do you have? Both will have a major impact on your online gaming.|||you need drivers.

Can a video card make your picture clearer?

I'm asking this because I run a few computers on the same monitor. I use a KVM to switch between boxes and it seems as though one of the pictures is clearer. I honestly think it CAN make a difference but a friend of mine disagrees. Assume that both pictures run at the same refresh rate and same resolution.|||bigger resolution means crisp object edges in the picture.

more the resolution you have for the pics better is the output. 16 and 32 bit are the color depths and only increase the possible number of colours you can display on your screen.|||is it also the same number of colours..16bit, 32 bit

there are settings like light, brightness etc, you may be getting a clearer picture due to this,,, but a 2mb video card will produce the same windows desktop a 512mb new nvidia card produces, except the new nvidia drivers mabe adjusting the colours and stuff to better suite etc..... hope im being clear...|||Yea, It should make Photos or pictures more clear because the 16bit and 32bit.

Will i get the performance out of EVGA 7800GS 256 MB video card using AGP 4X/8X interface?

I am planing to upgrade my video card. I want to know if i the AGP interface will let the 7800GS perform at its best? I read somewhere that the AGP interface has a limited transfer rate.|||Its true that the transfer rate is limited to 4 or 8X as PCI-E is twice or 4 times that at 16X but it is really only like 5-6% reduction overall. Some PCI-E boards are also 4 or 8X as well. My board is a cheap GIGABYTE running my PCI-E ATI X850XT PE 16X at 4X but still plays all my games flawlessly with an INTEL 2.8GHz dual core CPU & 2GB DDR2 PC4200 RAM. Dont worry about it, that 7800GS is a great card & should play all your games fine as long as you have the CPU & RAM to back it up.|||Sure, AGP has a slower transfer rate than PCI-express.

But, the 7800gs is not powerful enough to max out the AGP 8X bus anyhow, so it is not going to be an issue for you.

Is it possible to install TnL on a video card, or am I stuck with what I have?

Ok, so I downloaded the Tomb Raider Anniversary demo to see if my system could handle it. So far, it looks alright, except that I get low frame rates in areas. The readme said that video cards lacking TnL support would do this. So, is TnL a program that can be downloaded? Or is it integrated onto cards?

I have an Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family

If I can`t use TnL, is there an option to improve frame rates? All answers are welcome, and thanks for reading my long post!|||You can't download it because it is a function of the chipset hardware not software.

How would you rate this video card?

Hello all,

I'm interested in your opinoins of this video card...

256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory

I intend to purchase a dell system and this is the card that comes with it.

It is important to note... I plan to purchase either 3 24inch wide screens or 3 20inch wide screens also from Dell. I'll be using mainly for charting stocks on 2 screens and playing video games on the thrid. Will this card handle those kind of applications?

Any thoughts or opinoins?

Thanks you.|||Don't get an SE version ... cause the major change in it is the ram capacity... and they give you a crappy GPU

You have to look for a good GPU(400MHz is fine) .. because it is the unit which specifies whether you buy a video card or not ... more about GPU here:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_pr…|||it sounds good but why u buying a dell, heaps better around at same price|||You mean X1600. The X1600 graphics card is ok, but not good for hard core gaming and sort of sttuters on games like Doom 3. If possible, try to get a nVidia, preferabbly the nVidia 7300. it is around 90 bucks, yet smokes most of the competition.

to directly answer your question, yes it will handle all of that. however, like i said, if possible, you should see if dell offers nVidia as nVidia is more preferred for for buisness type stuff not to mention gaming.|||I looked through Dell's computers to find this card, and I couldn't. I did find a 128MB Radeon X600 SE, anyway perhaps you could update with which particular model Dell you were looking for. Anyway, the Card will probably do fine, however if you are gonna invest in 3 widescreens you might wannna invest in a top level graphics card as well. This card should be able to handle all, the charting of stocks will not be graphically demanding, and this card should work just fine for gaming.

I would just buy a card from EVGA. If it ever breaks in its lifetime they will send you one of their latest models to replace the broken one.|||hmmm .........depends on the card itself. it's a new make? if so and it's really cheap with a 30 day warranty sure go for it but if it's a old card then i suggest saving up a little more money and get a newer more powerful one

Need help with video card selection - not sure what I can actually plug into this thing :(?

Hey there! So I have this aging IBM ThinkCentre that I have been using - it's not much of a system but it does what I need it to and I am not looking to replace it anytime soon.

I play Eve Online (http://www.eveonline.com) and right now due to hardware failure i'm stuck on a very old Nvidia geforce 6200. It's quite playable, but I really would prefer a better frame rate.

Anyway, here's my problem: due to the different types of AGP ports and the types of cards that will actually work/not-work with particular AGP ports, i'm totally at a loss as to what kind of video card to ask for as a gift this year - as i'm not sure this board will actually be able to use it. Just got this system not too long ago after my primary PC decided to die, and my AGP 7600GT does not work on this board - hence having to fall back to the old card I am using as a backup right now.

So help me out. What's the best AGP video card I can get that will work on this computer?

The system is a IBM ThinkCentre 8187-47U, and the basic specs of the system can be found here. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-51144.html

Again, what i'm looking for is the best possible nvidia card I could plug into the AGP port on this system. Thank in advance!|||8400GS PCI

Akash!|||u need any 8x agp card, good luck, i dont think theres much of a selection.

might be time to think about upgrading to a system with a pci-e slot, thats pretty much the new standard.|||I'm wondering why the 7600GT isn't working or maybe just didn't have the correct driver for it. If an AGP 6200 works then so should the 7600 as far as I know. You may want to retry installing it and make sure you have the correct driver. Beyond that if you want a better card for AGP you're best bet is ATI Radeon and will give you the best you will get out of that pc. (link at the bottom) I would suggest upgrading your mother board to a PCI express and you can get them pretty cheap these days for just a basic board that can handle 65nm dual's or quad's plus all the best PCIexp cards that are out but these ATI HD's would work nicely.

Dxdiag video card test?

when I do the "dxdiag" to test the video card. the box that shows spins very fast. when it should spin slowly.

I dont know what wrong and all my games run slow.?

everything is enabled

I think its the refresh rate...how to fix.

my settings are 7800 GT OC

Pentium D 3.0

2 GB ram|||Do you have Windows Vista? If yes, this may be a compatibility problem if your computer was upgraded from XP. You also may have installed an XP or earlier video driver. If you run Windows XP, your video card driver may not be made for XP.|||If it is your refresh rate you will be slowly burning up your display however you can find your refresh rate setting under display/settings/advanced/monitor however I WOULD NOT CHANGE THIS SETTING.

Instead you should download the latest drivers for your video card from the Nvidia Web site at www.nvidia.com.

What video card will fit my computer?

I just bought a new game for my computer called Oblivion, and it works- but on some parts of the game it is a really choppy frame rate. I did the "Can You Run It" test on my computer before I bought it, and I exceeded the minimum specs. I believe I just need a better vid card, but I need to know which one I should buy that fits and won't be to hard on my computer. (I prefer nvidia)

Here are my computers model/specs:

emachines W3644

AMD Sempron Processor LE-1250

2.21GHz

1.9GB of ram.

Microsoft XP Home Edition

nvidea Geforce 6100 nForce 405 512mb

57.9gb free space.

I've had this computer for a little over 2 years, should I just set money aside for a new computer, or will buying a better video card fix this problem?

I'm a casual gamer, nothing hardcore here.

I'd rather not invest more than $100 in a video card.

If you have an exact vcard model for me, please link it if you can!

Thanks in advance!|||A geforce 220 should be around the $100 mark and it's probably the best bang for your buck.

Can I improve my frame rate on PC games with out updating to a new video card?

When I play games I'm running at 4-20 FPS changes with more people and/or graphics near me.|||I don't quite agree with not overclocking...

First it all depends on your what hardware you have, if you have, for example, a amd x2 3800, 1 gig of ram and integrated graphics you cannot really overclock.

Otherwise, if you have something better, you might want to try it out. Usually, if you have an ATI or NVIDIA card you can use their program (ntune for nvidia, you can downloa it on their site for free) and change the stats yourself.

Then try to find some guides on internet on overclocking your cpu or memory.

But if you have no good oc hardware at all, the best thing to do is buy new parts, or just do nothing.

Good luck|||Theres no other way of increasing FPS without getting a new graphics card besides OVERCLOCKING.

I don't recommend overclocking it because the performance improvement is quite small.|||Some games have settings that let you adjust things such-as anti-aliasing, draw distance, and lighting effects. If your game has those options, tweaking everything down a little bit will increase your frame-rate.... but if it is running terribly slow then you most likely need to get a new video card...|||Best thing to do would be to set the resolution lower or other settings such as anti aliasing or particles and shadows if the game allows. Overclocking is very common, but it does involve a little risk and understanding, and you will only end up with maybe a couple more frames per second in the end if you are lucky. Unfortunately, a better video card is really the way to go. Prices are dropping fast on them though with so many new ones coming out. You can get a little older one that still has excellent performance for a great price.|||Umm you could lower the resolution of the game and quality and disable all the other programs you have running in the background.

Advice on this evga video card?

thanks!!!|||It should play most games reasonably well. In performance terms it is slightly better than an 8600GT (About 16% better performance). My 8600GT is quite happily playing most of the major new games - some even on their highest settings so I'm pretty certain thet the 9500GT will be able to do the same. Still, having said that, I would recommend that you set your sights a little higher & go for a 9600GT/GTS as that will provide even better performance.|||Hmm, I'd personally recommand ATI HD 4830

Additionally, this information may not display on every computer, and in some cases where it does, it might not be verbose enough to tell you the actual chipset; it might identify only the brand and model."

Thanks you.|||3 monitors for 1 card? Sorry, but video cards only have 2 outputs. Since you intend to go with flat-panel monitors, try to make sure the video card you get has 2 DVI outputs, not DVI/VGA (that's 1 of each type).

As far as the card itself is concerned, the X600 is just BARELY better than the much older 9600XT. Much of the performance difference is a direct result of the X600 being PCI-Express, while the 9600XT is AGP. Alsp, with such large monitors, you'll often be using higher resolutions, so you should avoid taking the cheaper route when it comes to your video card.

If you prefer to stay with ATI-based video cards, I'd see if they offer something newer, like perhaps the X1600. The X600 is well over a year old, whereas the X1600 has only been out a few months.

If you're considering nVidia as an option, you might want to look into the 7600 series (comparable to the ATI X1600). The 7600GS is fastly becoming a popular choice for mainstream users / moderate gamers based on it's bang-for-the-buck value. One advantage nVidia tends to have over ATI is that many game developers optimise the game's code specifically for nVidia cards. It's not to say ATI cards won't run it, but sometimes they don't run it quite as well.|||I would get an NVIDIA card, personally.|||thats the video card i have i thinkl its good i guess there is better though|||Yeah i would get a NVIDIA GPU too but i would get 2 videos cards if ur mainboard supports it and set up a SLI (scalbe Link interface) Newwest techneolgy that Nvidia made probably your best bet.

Can my power supply support this video card PLS HELP!?

Help for video card performance issue?

I have an ATI Radeon 9250 128mb PCI card. When I play fullscreen games, the video is PERFECT. When I try to view DVD's, video downloads or online video, and when I use Internet Explorer, every change in the image or video requires a 1/2 to 1 second refresh of the entire screen. I've messed around with the video card settings for resolution and refresh rate, but have not found a winning combo. Why would video/dvd and everything in Internet Explorer refresh so slow (video is unwatchable!), but full-screen games have such smooth graphics and motion? It seems the game would be more graphics intensive, but they work better... Is there a way I can fix this issue that anyone knows of? I can provide more information if you need.|||Hmmm... Good question.

Really all I can suggest is to make sure you have the updated video and chipset drivers for your computer.

Generally, when you have an issue in one area it translates into the other. Which this is not the case with your computer.

If this was simply an issue with the DVD's playing choppy I would suggest enabling DMA on the DVD drive, but that is not the only issue. So I have to assume it is driver related.

Try the new drivers, and if that doesn't help, come back.|||When watching video online, often time the bandwith to views the video causes it to distort.

It lots clearer if you were watching movie offline than online.

Another factor is the person who made the video whether he use a high quality codec program or similar.|||The refresh rate in Internet Explorer is limited by the network speed. Video downloading do take a long time as well. After the download the video file is in your computer and can run fast and refresh fast.

There is nothing wrong with your graphic card, I don't think you can do anything about it.

Cheers

Is it worth $30-50 to upgrade my video card?

I have an AMD Athlon 2400+ with an nvidia 64mb video card in it and 786mb memory and a big hard drive. If I upgrade the video card to an 128 or 256mb video card, what will I notice performance-wise? The biggest games I play on it are some of the 2008 sports basketball/football/hockey, which all do OK frame-rates at medium graphic settings. I downloaded the demo of the the latest flight simulator, but it was a little choppy on the framerate even on low graphic settings. I don't have the money or much intererest to get a new computer anytime soon, but was wondering if this might be an easy upgrade...|||Is it easy to upgrade yes, and for gameplay you will notice an increase in performance, upgrading your ram will also help out.

I would still recommend you upgrade your whole system.|||A huge difference. A GPU one of the most important pieces of harware in gaming.|||yes deffenly, they are cheep and make a huge difference

They should both work fine, the only thing you don't mention is the power rating of the PSU, 400 - 500 Watts should suffice for your current system plus the extra RAM & graphics card.

However, if you can afford it I would spend a little bit more on the card, if you can find one an NVidia 7600GT with 512Mb would be a better bet, or a 7800GS (the most powerful AGP card available from NVidia) would be your best bet.

A Review of it is here:

If you can find either card then they will both be well worth the extra money.

Would a new video card increase framerate with graphics?

would adding a decicated video card to my computer increase the framerate. my computer (circa 2002) has a intel 82810 intergrated video chipset, a 1200mhz celeron processor and 512mb ram the video is good as far as the resolution and number of colors.but my computer doesnt get a very good frame rate i have to use low resolution to get some things to work, and it also lags while scrolling down web pages that are graphicly intense. it isnt terrible slow otherwise.is framerate more dependent on the video card or the speed of ur processor.?? my processor isnt upgradeble so i am hopeing that a new video card will help. would it be possible to double my framerate by installing a new video card.? also how do i tell if my computer has a slot avaible for a video card and what type of slot it is without opening the computer case.?|||I can't say a graphics card wouldn't help but really with the newer releases you'll still be significantly behind.

You prob have at least a 4x agp port on there if you want to find a mid-range card to run with. But really, you've got a celeron processor and only 512MB ram. Since 2002 we've moved on to dual core processors and pci-xpress bus...or even dual card sli setups.

Realisticly, you can run just about all your software just fine on an older system like that. Mainly just games or heavy encoding work will give you headaches. As far as hardware upgrads you'll always be chasing your tail a bit to keep up with the latest and greatest. Some of the newer cards are upwards of $300-400 bucks alone and another $200 for the better sli motherboards. There's always the option of putting a few hundred bucks towards an xbox360 or similar and you'll have full game support for easily the next 5 years with no upgrade headaches.|||well to answer the big question, yes it would increase frame rate, the processor is fine. you could also have files that slow down your pc. but you may need to open up the case to see what slot you have. though its probably an AGP slot|||Im not sure if it would "double" it, it may help.

But framerate isnt just about video.

Its about video , your processor, your harddrive.

If you have a great video card, but sucky HD and CPU then it doesn't matter how good your video card is.

Good luck!|||add another 512mb of ram to your computer, if you have a 4slot dimm for ram upgrades...do 3 more 512 ram sticks makesure you know whether its DDR or DDR2 motherboard compliant, after upgrading ram, which helps with faster gameplay but not necessarily faster FPS get yourself a $200 graphic but your computer is only as fast as your slowest computer part, so your processor doesnt sound very good, Try tigerdirect.com for all AGP graphic cards and find something around $100 bucks since you dont want to have something faster than your CPU can handle, would be a waste of extra money for the next time you buy a computer...good luck
