I have Pentium D 3,4 Ghz and I recently got a BFG NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT OC 512MB PCIe (I know, it's a little 'outdated'). I'm getting annoying lags and lower FPS than expected in video games like Tomb Riader Legend (with next generation content, antialiasing, high effects ON). This is not good and is not supposed to happen. I am suspecting that my PSU is not good enough for this video card. This video card is suppossed to need 350w PCI Express compliant system power supply with 12V current rating of 22A or more. My PSU is an Omega ATX with 500 watts, with this:
+3,3 v 26A
+5 v 26 A
+12 v1 14 A
+12 v2 15 A
+5VSB 2,0 A
- 12 V 1,0
Does anyone know exaclty what is the current rating that I'm getting from this PSU (I know is not 29 A)? I wnat to be sure the problem is the PSU and not the video card.|||I cant find info on it...but if you take the total wattage on the 2 12v rails and divide it by 12v you will get how many amps are on the 12v rails....
that's a really cheap unit and probably has less than 22 amps on the rails...if it is the power supply that's not sufficient you will have these symptoms.......
bad 3D performance
crashing games
spontaneous reset or imminent shutdown of the PC
freezes during game play
PSU overload can cause it to break down
so i would suggest looking for a new quality built power supply....ocz,corsair and Antec are all very good......i would get a 450w to 500w psu....you have room then if you want to upgrade in the future...
for an example of what i would get for that setup... a modular OCZ 500w unit....has 2---12v rails with 36amps on them..it will run your card fine....65.00 bux and after mir its BX00 bux.....

Scott|||If you read this it might shed some light on the story...might is because you are
over the amount to a sufficient degree allowing that the PSU is actually putting out what it says it does...however...but bear in mind that the systems requirements site
that I'll give you also says (with most of the games I've checked) that the minimum
card is an 8500, but like I've said, I haven't checked many on it so check the ones you use to see if they have a requirement higher than your card...
