I need a major video card upgrade, something w/ great data rate clock speeds and more advanced texture quality and color capability. I'm looking at the ATI Radeon 4875, and I really need to compare because it's a heck of an investment.

No such card as the 4875. There is the 4870 which is $300 ish, and it's a very good card. There's the GTX 280 which is $425ish and only slightly better. Than there's the 4870x2 for $550 which kicks some real butt.
In order of best to worst....
4870x2 > Gtx 280 > 9800gx2 > 4870 > Gtx 260 > 3870x2 > 8800ultra > 9800gtx > 8800gtx > 8800gts 512mb > 8800gt > 2900xt/3870/9600gt/8800gts 640mb > 3850/8800gs/9600gso > 8600gts > 8600gt/2600xt .......you really don't want to go lower than the 8800gt
