I just purchased the ASUS 6850 video card and comes pre-overclocked due to the better, non-reference cooler from 775MHz Core to 790MHz Core and the standard 1000MHz or 4.0GHz effective memory rate.
I always like to give a little bit of a nudge to a video card and was wondering if I have the core clock set to 820MHz and memory to 1050MHz will I be doing serious harm to my hardware or is this absolutely fine? I hate putting strain on a video card and want to know if this slight over clock is fine?
When gaming, it never exceeds over 68 degrees C. and I would like to have this video card for at least 2 years and no more than 3 years.|||You need not worry. 68°C is normal for the HD 6850 and most graphics card. The GPU chip usually has a core temp limit of 105°C. And when that temperature is approached, graphics card may clock down or force a shutdown. Only start worrying when you hit ~80°C.|||Depends on your case cooling system, if it is good like 4 large fans then you have to try and see how it works, if the OC puts more strain than you think it can handle then you shouldn't do it.
