I'd like to get a new video card to get ready for the game Age of Conan... Anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about the one below. I don't need the top of the line card, just looking for something that will allow me to play with graphics on high and have a good frame rate... Thanks..
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?edpno=3738460&catid=2306|||Video card makers put lots of cheap funky old memory (gddr2) to fool people into thinking they are getting good video cards, while even if the memory wasn't slow and lame, the card couldn't take advantage of the extra memory given that it's shaders, and stream processors are clock slower.
That is a good option for the 8600GT at a reasonable price. It has the faster GDDR3, and you don't have to pay for excess memory. Should perform better than the one you said. Also this card isn't worth more than no matter the ram, so don't pay more than that. It will run most newish games on medium at 1280x1024 or bellow: $50

Better yet, the Radeon 3850 512mb will let you play most games between medium and high on hi-res IMO worthwhile upgrade: $100

The next major upgrade from there is the 8800GT 512mb which will basically max everything but crysis which it runs on high: $150
