Will getting a video card improve the refresh rate?

I have an Acer AL2016W 20" LED display connected to an HP Pavilion a1010n with onboard graphics. At full resolution, I can only get 60 Hz refresh rate, but I want to be able to go up to 75 Hz at full resolution to make it easier on the eyes. The a1010n has a motherboard with onboard graphics, nothing real good. If I reduce the resolution on the monitor, I can get an increased refresh rate, but at the full 1680 by 1050 resolution it's only 60 Hz. Could getting a dedicated video card and using the DVI cord help the refresh rate at full resolution?

According to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum… the a1010n has two PCI expansion ports. Would a video card via PCI be good enough -- even to help the refresh rate? I was looking for a card like the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… or the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as… . Someone indicated that the motherboard on the HP also has an AGP 4x slot, but I'm not sure if that was for this particular model or not, so any clarification would be nice.

Finally, I heard that iMacs have high refresh rates like this... Since this is related, any input or info on the matter would be appreciated. Because I was looking at one monitor online and the specs seemed to say that it can only get a fast refresh rate at low resolutions, and if that goes for all PC monitors, I may want to go for the Mac.

Thanks.|||For an LCD monitor with a DIGITAL (DVI) connection, the refresh rate means nothing. The LCD works differently than a CRT. A CRT's refresh rate has to be 75 or higher Hz because it fires the pixel once per fram, and the phosphor pixel immediately starts to fade, so you get flicker against the room lighting.

An LCD on the other hand, keeps the pixel on full time, it doesn't turn off or fade (until the scene changes and changes that pixel), so there is no flickering.|||no. refresh rates are are built into the monitor, you cant change them

you can get better fps by changing your graphics card, but not the refresh rate

or i guess you could try and change it in your os|||You'd have to get a new display if you wanted a higher refresh rate. Video cards have no affect on this to my knowledge. Sorry.
