Can I change the "Default Refresh" Rate for my video card?

I just bought a new Samsung SyncMaster

2233SW Monitor. It's resolution is 1920x1080.

During boot-up, I get a monitor popup error in

the middle of the screen stating "Not Optimum

Mode - Recommended Mode: 1920x1080

60Hz". When it actually gets into Windows

and the display settings change, the window

goes away.

Here is my problem:

When I am in the BIOS or in Safe Mode, I get

this popup and after 60 seconds, the display

shuts down. The only way I can get it back is

to turn the monitor off and then back on again.

Here is what I have found out:

The default display during boot-up and in the

BIOS is 1280x1024 at 75 Hz. Apparently the

refresh rate is the issue. When in Windows, I

have changed the display settings to every

possible mode, and only get the popup when

set at 75 Hz. When in Safe Mode, I can

change the resolution, but all modes are set to

"default refresh", & it doesn't state what that

rate is. According to the monitor, it is 75Hz.

My question:

Is there any way to change the default refresh

rate of my ATI Radeon (X1600Pro) video card? Is there

any other way to change it in the BIOS or

when in Safe Mode? I would like to set it back

to 60 Hz. That way I should be able to get rid

of this issue in startup, the BIOS, and in Safe

Mode.

Thanks in advance!

Nathan|||You are spending too much time in the BIOS and Safe Mode. That is not where you change or set the refresh rate. You have to change the setting on the video card. It is very possible your video card doesn't support that kind of monitor!
